Rehabilitation for Postural Disorders
Holistic Solutions for Spinal Health
The sedentary lifestyle brought about by modern life, prolonged periods of desk work and the use of technological devices have made postural problems one of the most common health issues of our time.
REHABILITATION FOR POSTURAL DISORDERS is not merely a matter of aesthetic concern; it is vital for preventing chronic pain, improving respiratory capacity and safeguarding the health of internal organs. At our centre, we offer a wide range of professional solutions, from spinal deformities to functional strengthening.
Scoliosis is a three-dimensional deformity characterised not only by a lateral curvature of the spine but also by rotation around its own axis. The treatment of this complex condition must therefore be multifaceted.
- What is the Schroth Method?: Scoliosis Rehabilitation and Schroth Treatment is a three-dimensional exercise approach recognised worldwide as the gold standard in the treatment of scoliosis.
- Three-Dimensional Correction: With this method, the spine is corrected simultaneously in the coronal, sagittal and transverse planes.
- Rotational Breathing: Special breathing techniques are used to teach the patient how to use their breath to expand the collapsed areas of the spine outwards.
- Awareness Training: By teaching patients how to maintain correct posture during daily activities (such as sitting and standing), the treatment’s long-term effectiveness and body awareness are ensured.
Kyphosis, commonly known as ‘hunchback’, is a condition characterised by an increased curvature of the spine. KYPHOSIS TREATMENT is a condition that can be managed through early diagnosis and appropriate exercise programmes.
- Postural vs. Structural Kyphosis: The treatment plan is tailored to the individual once it has been determined whether the kyphosis is due to poor posture (postural) or to changes in bone structure (such as conditions that cause deformities, like Scheuermann’s disease).
- Muscle Balance: The focus is on stretching the shortened chest muscles (pectoralis) and strengthening the weakened back muscles (rhomboid, trapezius).
- Mobility Exercises: The aim is to improve breathing by increasing the range of motion in the thoracic spine (upper back).
Structural abnormalities of the ribcage can affect both physical appearance and cardiovascular health. TREATMENT OF CHEST DEFORMITIES can yield successful results without the need for surgery, particularly in individuals during their developmental years, when treatment is administered before the age of 17.
- Pectus excavatum and pectus carinatum: In cases of ‘funny chest’ (sunken chest) or ‘pigeon chest’ (protruding chest), the progression of the deformity can be halted through the rehabilitation of the muscles surrounding the ribcage.
- Increasing Lung Capacity: Special breathing and chest expansion exercises are used to increase lung volume that has been restricted due to deformity.
- Orthotic treatment: In patients under the age of 17, complete recovery can be achieved using vacuum and compression orthoses, depending on the nature of the deformity.
One of the most effective tools in postural rehabilitation, REFORMER PILATES, uses spring-based resistance systems to improve the body’s alignment.
- Core Stabilisation: Minimises lower back and back pain by strengthening the deep abdominal muscles that support the spine.
- Dynamic Flexibility: Unlike traditional exercises, it both strengthens the muscles and improves flexibility by lengthening them.
- Joint Health: Thanks to its spring resistance, it provides a safe working environment without placing excessive strain on the joints.
Pregnancy is a period during which the body’s centre of gravity shifts and the spine is subjected to additional strain. PREGNANCY PILATES is ideal for ensuring this period is pain-free and comfortable.
- Prevention of Lower Back Pain: Stabilisation exercises are performed to counteract the increased curvature of the lower back (lordosis) that occurs during pregnancy.
- Pelvic Floor Health: The focus is on the pelvic floor muscles to facilitate childbirth and speed up postnatal recovery.
- Safe Modifications: These are carried out using specific modifications suitable for each trimester of pregnancy, which do not put the baby or the mother at risk.
